What Major Events Does WPT Global Have Lined Up?
Looking at the tournament schedule inside the WPT Global app, the first event that jumps out is the Golden Weekly Tournament, a recent addition. The tournament features a buy-in of CNY 550 (the equivalent of around $82) and a guarantee of CNY 688,000 (just over $100,000).
For clarity, tournaments and cash game tables at WPT Global are a mix of USD and CYN (Chinese Yuan) buy-ins. Still, players can use both currencies interchangeably, with conversions performed while buying into the game and cashing out.
The Golden Weekly Tournament is the operator’s flagship event, and its $100K guarantee is pretty solid. However, this is only one major event per week, while competitors have quite a few more in store.
PokerStars has long featured a smattering of weekly majors such as Sunday Storm, Sunday Warm-up, Sunday Kickoff, and the signature Sunday Million event. GGPoker has a colorful selection of sizable guarantees, too, with the Sunday Mini Main Event ($100K guaranteed with a buy-in of just $25), Sunday Marathon, and several Special Sunday events across different buy-in levels, etc.
So, to attract MTT players, WPT Global will likely need to expand its tournament schedule with a few more majors. The operator will almost certainly develop its schedule with a few more solid guarantees in the future, and this is something many MTT grinders out there are looking forward to.
The standard of play in WPT Global events is undoubtedly lower than what you find at other sites, so that is something to consider. The EV of a solid MTT player in the operator’s flagship event thus stands to be much higher than their EV in majors at other platforms.
Organized Tournament Series at WPT Global
Another critical point to look at is the operator’s tournament series. Big MTT series typically offer big prize pools scattered across dozens of events to effectively attract players. PokerStars has been hosting such events for years, and GGPoker has followed the same pattern.
Both operators feature tournament series for different types of players, from hardcore professionals with large bankrolls to recs and small-time grinders looking to make their way up in the poker world. We are talking about events like PokerStars’ WCOOP, SCOOP, Micro Millions, Winter Series, and GGPoker’s GGMasters and microMILLION$.
WPT Global is yet to announce any such series. Given the operator’s connection to the World Poker Tour brand, it is safe to assume that it is only a matter of time before the first online series kicks off on the WPT Global app. When it does happen, there is a solid chance it might be connected to some live events, targeting a particular segment of the player base interested in live tournament experiences.
A challenge with these events is finding an attractive enough guarantee while keeping buy-ins at a reasonable price point for the average player. This is perhaps why WPT Global is not rushing things and is, instead, waiting to get a better idea of the best format for its first series.

Solid Daily Schedule With Modest Guarantees
When it comes to regular daily events, WPT Global is somewhat conservative. The biggest guarantee in regular daily tournaments is $5,000, and these larger guarantees are reserved for MTTs with bigger buy-ins ($55+).
PokerStars and GGPoker regularly feature daily tournaments with five and six-figure guarantees, and these are available even at low stakes ($5 or $10+).

Even with conservative guarantees, some WPT Global events wind up with an overlay, making them attractive to serious players looking for the best value. This also suggests that, at this point, the operator cannot afford to significantly bump its guarantees across the board as the player pool is not big enough to support such changes.
WPT Global seems to be headed in the right direction with its tournament schedule, and we will likely see more events like the Golden Weekly Tournament added to the mix shortly. Likewise, the operator will probably host an MTT series soon, but the competition is fierce, and WPT Global will need to overcome a few hurdles to catch up.
